"Travel is rich with learning opportunities, and the ultimate souvenir is a broader perspective." --- Rick Steves

Welcome to our Travelblog!

After 22 years in the Navy, then 23 in the corporate world, I finally retired to start enjoying our "golden years" with the wife who stood by me through all the hectic and demanding times.

We saw some great places and had wonderful experiences as a Navy family, and discovered how much we both love to travel - seeing new places, meeting different people, learning about different cultures, and mostly trying some occasionally exotic food! We've learned that you don't have to be rich to enjoy enriching experiences.
Whenever possible, we choose side roads or back roads, avoiding the freeways and the frenzy. We would rather take narrow roads through small German towns, drive the Pacific Coast Highway, enjoy the incredible mountain scenery in the Alps, watch wildlife in a cove off a lake in North Carolina, stop at a gasthaus in a small Austrian village to negotiate a room for the night, drive the coastal B9 along the Rhine, visit a small town in England that we learned about in a BBC program.

I've created this blog to share some of our experiences. Please use the tabs above to check out the places we've visited in "Our Travel", the delicious foods we've encountered in "Food, Glorious Food" (apologies to the creators of "Oliver!"), who we are in "About Us", and "Our Recommendations" for some of our favorites during out travel.

This site is still in development, so please be patient and check back occasionally.
